Dr. Thad Druffel is a senior research engineer and solar manufacturing research and development theme leader at the University of Louisville's Conn Center for Renewable Energy Research. His focus is on scalable manufacturing of photovoltaics and other renewable energy production and storage solutions.
Druffel has several publications and patent applications related to this research, and is an experienced as the principal investigator for industry-sponsored research grants, including those from organizations like the National Science Foundation, Department of Energy and the state. He also has a background in research and development topics in both mechanical and chemical engineering, and he has been involved in projects ranging from developing solar energy and water facilities in Africa, to corporate R&D projects for cutting-edge technologies.
Druffel earned his undergraduate degree at Carnegie Mellon and his master's at Colorado State University, both in mechanical engineering. He earned his Ph.D. in chemical engineering from the University of Louisville and is registered with the Commonwealth of Kentucky as a professional engineer.
