Speakers: Alex Calder and Paul Jones, University of Louisville Cardinal Athletics
A new era of high-performance is upon us, with science and big data quietly revolutionizing sport, as we know it. For the first time, wearable sensors are shedding light on the true demands, and preparatory and recovery needs of athletes, and the brainpower and resources needed behind the scenes to create a winning environment. What does this mean for academia, athletic departments, coaches and athletes? One word: Opportunity!
Paul Jones is the lead performance analyst for Cardinal Athletics. He earned a master's in exercise physiology from U of L. Paul previously served in the US Army, including one deployment to Iraq in 2012, and played collegiate rugby.
Alex Calder is a former professional soccer athlete who has worked as a performance coach in Australia for the past six years. Alex currently serves as a Performance Specialist with Cardinal Athletics, and specializes in data science.
This seminar was sponsored by the University of Louisville Department of Computer Engineering and Computer Sciences.
