Dr. Mahendra K. Sunkara
Professor of chemical engineering and the director for the Conn Center for Renewable Energy Research
Dr. Mahendra K. Sunkara is a professor of chemical engineering, University Scholar and the director for the Conn Center for Renewable Energy Research (Conn Center) at University of Louisville.
Sunkara founded Advanced Energy Materials, LLC to scale scale up the production of nanowire-based materials for high performance catalysts and adsorbents. He also has been awarded more than 15 U.S. patents.
Sunkara has published more than 100 articles in refereed journals and proceedings and coauthored the book “Inorganic Nanowires: Applications, Properties and Characterization,” published by CRC Press. His research in the area of nanoscale materials and their use in energy conversion and storage applications has been the subject of national and international news articles.
Sunkara earned his undergraduate degree in chemical engineering at Andhra University (India) and his master's and Ph. D. in chemical engineering from Clarkson University and Case Western Reserve University, respectively.
