Dr. Gamini Sumanasekera
Energy storage theme leader at the Conn Center for Renewable Energy Research and associate professor of physics
Dr. Gamini Sumanasekera leads energy storage research at the Conn Center for Renewable Energy Research. His focus is on materials innovation in large-area graphene growth, thermionics and thermoelectrics and lithium ion battery development.
Gamini is the author or co-author of more than 75 original research papers and holds patents in the area of thermoelectric materials and processes. His research has included studying the physical properties of nanoparticles, carbon nanotubes, superconductors, electrical conductivity, thermoelectric power and electrochemical behavior of novel and functionalized nanomaterials.
Sumanasekera earned his undergraduate degree from the University of Peradeniya — Sri Lanka, his master's from Bowling Green State University and his Ph.D. from Indiana University — Bloomington, all in physics.
