Dr. Nihat Altiparmak
Assistant Professor of Computer Engineering and Computer Science
Dr. Nihat Altiparmak is an assistant professor of computer engineering and computer science at the University of Louisville's J.B. Speed School of Engineering. His research interests lie in the area of computer systems, specifically focusing on:
- Storage Systems;
- Parallel and Distributed Systems;
- High Performance Computing;
- Cloud Computing and Big Data;
- Computer Networks;
- Network Security.
Specifically, Dr. Altiparmak investigates efficient storage and retrieval strategies for large datasets using multi-disk distributed and heterogeneous storage architectures. Aside from the storage and management of big data, he also is interested in network security and localization problems in wireless sensor networks.
Dr. Altiparmak's publications have appeared in prestigious international journals, including IEEE Transactions on Computers, IEEE Transactions on Parallel and Distributed Systems, ACM Transactions on Storage and ACM Transactions on Sensor Networks. He is the recipient of National Science Foundation's CRII Pre-CAREER Award.
Dr. Altiparmak earned his undergraduate degree from Bilkent University in Ankara, Turkey, and his master's and doctorate from the University of Texas at San Antonio, all in computer science and engineering. During his graduate studies, he earned the College of Science Outstanding Research Award.
